He completed his bachelor’s degree in 2012 and his master’s degree in industrial engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 2014. In 2019, he successfully completed his PhD at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in the field of industrial engineering. Thereby, his research focus was on business model and data analytics. During his PhD, he worked in close cooperations with other universities (e.g. University of Kassel) and industry partners. In addition to projects with large companies such as Robert Bosch GmbH, MHP Porsche Consulting and KPMG, he also worked closely with medium-sized companies such as Blanc and Fischer. Today he has a job as a Senior Consultant at Mercedes-Benz Group AG. In addition, he gives lectures at several universities and colleges. In addition to domestic universities (e.g. Karlsruhe, Pforzheim, Trier) he has also given lectures at international universities (e.g. Sun Yat-sen, Guangdong, China).

Dr. Augenstein’s research is in the areas of data analytics, digital business models and the design of interactive information systems for digital transformation. A special focus is on data-supported decision-making at business model level as well as the user-centered design of information systems to meet the challenges of the digital transformation. One aim of the research is the implementation of digital transformation standards and data analytics in companies as well as the investigation of the effects both on the business model and on an individual level. Digital services and information systems specially tailored to users are part of the research focus, used both in companies and in society. Thus, the addressees of research are manifold. The research results are applicable in large, as well as in small and medium-sized companies and start-ups.
